Cannot delete photos synced to iPhone via iTunes from your Windows computer

You might find that you are not given the option to delete photos that were synced from your computer. The sync function is similar to a one-way sync that is done with an iPod and music. These instructions assume that iTunes is set to synchronize photos with the iPhone and the entire Pictures folder is to be synced.

  1. Open the Windows File Explorer.
  2. Navigate to your Pictures folder.
  3. Locate the picture(s) you no longer want on the iPhone.
  4. Move the photos to another folder outside of Pictures (e.g. Documents or Downloads) if you want to keep the photos. Delete the photos if you want to destroy them.
  5. Plug the iPhone into the computer and let iTunes sync with the phone. The pictures should no longer be present on the iPhone.

iTunes does not detect the iPhone, but detects the camera

  1. On your keyboard, hold down the Windows key then press the letter R.
  2. Type in devmgmt.msc then press Enter.
  3. Look for Apple iPhone. It should appear within Imaging Devices, Other Devices, Portable Devices, or Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
  4. Right-click on Apple iPhone and choose Update Driver Software.
  5. Hit the Browse button and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
  6. Hit the Next button and Windows should redetect the driver properly.

If iTunes doesn‘t recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod from Apple Support

iTunes detects the iPhone or iPad, but does not detect the camera

  1. On your keyboard, hold down the Windows key then press the letter R.
  2. Type in control then press Enter.
  3. Look for Devices and Printers and open it.
  4. Near the bottom is the Unspecified section. You should see the iPhone or iPad listed there divided into two devices. Right-click on the Apple device with the yellow warning triangle then left-click Troubleshoot.
  5. Follow the steps to have Windows automatically fix the problem. Windows will download and install the necessary drivers and the yellow warning triangle should disappear.
