How to bypass ransomware in Safari
- Click on the black apple at the top-left corner of the screen.
- Click on Force Quit.
- Select Safari then press the Force Quit button.
- On the keyboard, hold down the Shift key then click on the Safari icon to launch Safari.
- Safari should no longer open to the ransomware page.
How to bypass ransomware in Safari on iOS (iPhone, iPad)
- Press the home button on the iPad/iPhone.
- Look for the Settings app and launch it.
- On the left side, turn on Airplane Mode by touching the slider. This will temporarily disconnect you from all network connections.
- Scroll down on the left side and look for Safari. Touch it.
- On the right side, look for Clear cookies and data and touch it.
- Press the Clear button.
- On the left side, scroll back up to Airplane Mode and turn it off by touching the slider.
- Press the home button on the iPad/iPhone and launch Safari. Safari should no longer open to the ransomware page.

How to reset a Windows 7 password running in Parallels
- Start the virtual machine.
- Open Terminal on your Mac. Click on Finder, Applications, Utilities, Terminal.
- At the prompt, type in prlctl list --all
- You'll see a line similar to {3e21f02b-9d52-4ebe-a079-675dc822d723} running- Windows 7. Copy the numbers and letter between the curly brackets.
- Using the identifier from the previous step you'll need to paste it between some commands. prlctl set 3e21f02b-9d52-4ebe-a079-675dc822d723 --userpasswd BigJimbo:1234
- You should receive a authentication tokens updated successfully. Try logging in with the new password of 123.

iPhoto
Move an iPhoto library to an external hard drive
- Make sure iPhoto is not running. Quit if it is.
- Locate the iPhoto library using Finder. Drag and drop it to the external drive.
- Hold down the Option key on the keyboard and click on iPhoto.
- Click on Other Library.
- Navigate to the external drive and select the iPhoto library.
- After you see your photos, quit iPhoto.
- Safely eject the external drive.
- Using Finder, locate the old library on the internal hard drive and send it to Trash.
- Empty the Trash.
- Reconnect the external hard drive. If you want to access your pictures in iPhoto, the external drive must be plugged in to the Mac.
Time Machine
Backup an external hard drive
- Open Time Machine.
- Click on the Options button.
- A list of excluded drives will be listed. Select the external drive you want to back up using Time Machine.
- Click on the minus button below to the left.
- Press the Save button. The external drive will now be backed up to the drive specified in Time Machine. Make sure you've got plenty of space to contain the internal drive and the external drive contents.
Downgrade from El Capitan (10.11) to Yosemite (10.10) via a bootable USB drive
This process will completely wipe the data from your Mac. Make sure you backup first.
These instructions assume you already have a bootable USB drive created with the Yosemite installer on it.
- Plug the USB drive into the Mac and reboot.
- Hold down the Option/Alt key while rebooting.
- Options will appear allowing you to select the drive you want to boot from. Select the USB drive.
- At the Install OS X screen, go to the menu bar at the top and select Utilities then Disk Utility.
- Select the Mac hard drive on the left (probably called Macintosh HD) then click on the tab near the top labeled Erase.
- Make sure the Format pull-down is set for Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
- In the Name field, give the hard drive a name. Macintosh HD is fine.
- Press the Erase button at the bottom-right.
- After the wiping process completes, close the Disk Utility window. You'll be brought back to the Install OS X screen.
- Click Continue to start installing Yosemite.
Tampered or corrupted message when installing from USB
This copy of the Install OS X Yosemite application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading.
- Go to Tools then select Terminal.
- At the terminal type date MMDDHHmmYY. Set the date to approximately the date the USB flash drive was created. Type typing ls -lha and check the dates that appear. An example would be date 0711170515 which would set the date as July 11, 5:05PM, 2015.

- Type exit and close the terminal window to return to the installer window.
- Try installing again.
Printer not found
- Click the black apple at the top-left.
- Click on System Preferences
- Open Printers and Scanners
- Click the + at the bottom-left to add a printer. Your printer should appear in the list of nearby printers.
- Items in the print queue should start printing. Close the windows just opened.
Losing connection to wireless printer
If you have a wireless printer that prints, but later it is not visible to the Mac, try using the Line Printer Daemon with a static IP.
- Set up your printer with a static IP address on your network. Instructions vary for each printer. If possible, set a reserved DHCP address for the printer in your router.
- Click on the black apple at the top-left corner of the screen.
- Click System Preferences.
- Select Printers and Scanners.
- Press the + button to add a new printer.
- Along the top of the window, click the IP tab.
- Set the protocol as Line Printer Daemon.
- Enter the static IP address you set the printer for in the first step in the Address field.
- Leave the Queue field empty.
- The Name and Location fields can be whatever you want for your own reference.
- Make sure the Print Using is set with the recommended print driver for your printer (e.g. Brother HL-L2360D series CUPS&)
- The URL will appear similar to lpd://10.0.0.196/
- Save the settings and try printing.
Disable inline attachments in Mail
- Quit the Mail application if it is running. Click on the Mail menu then select Quit, or use the Command key and Q.
- Open the Terminal application located in Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.
- Type in the following command then press Return on the keyboard:
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes - Run the Mail application again. Attachments will show as icons. If you want to revert this behavior, use the following command in the Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool no
Mail application not sending e-mail/e-mail stuck in outbox
- Click Mail then select Preferences.
- Click on the SMTP server then choose Edit SMTP server list.
- Click on Advanced.
- Try disabling SSL, close the Preferences windows, then turn it back on.
- Quit Mail and start it again.
- If that doesn't work, try manually setting the port number.

Mail app file location
The Mail app stores mbox files in ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes.
Older versions of Mail keeps mbox files in ~/Library/Mail/V2 or ~/Library/Mail/V3
Keychain reset
If you receive errors with the Keychain or you are repeatedly asked for your password at login, you may need to reset your Keychain.
- Open the Finder and navigate to Applications.
- Open Utilities then Keychain Access
- Click on the Keychain Access menu and select Preferences.
- Choose Reset My Default Keychain.
- Click on the black apple at the top-left corner and Log Out.
- Log into the account you logged out of.
