- Fill in the IP Addresss field with the IP you'd like to assign to the device. Make sure no other device has this IP assigned to it.
- Fill in the MAC Address field with the MAC address of the device. The MAC address may be listed on a sticker on the device, or else you'll have to work your way into the settings of the device to locate the MAC address.
release a DHCP lease
If you're swapping out an old router for a new one, you'll need to release the DHCP lease before the new router will properly connect. It can take two hours for a DHCP lease to expire, so this method is much faster.
- Log into the Actiontec MI424-WR router using a Web browser at 192.168.1.1
- Click on the My Network icon at the top.
- Select Network Connections from the menu on the left.
- Select Broadband Connection.
- Click Settings.
- Click Release.
- Click Apply.
- Quickly disonnect the router to prevent it from reacquiring a new IP address.
Comcast/Xfinity

- Log into your account at https://customer.comcast.com
- Click on Users and Preferences.
- Look down the page for a section labelled Service Address. Click the link below your address labelled Manage Xfinity Wifi.
- Click Disable Xfinity Wifi Home Hotspot.
